We are reviving the Carnival tradition at the Pálffy courtyard—and in the past, it truly was splendid. As early as the 9th century, festivities began in our region known as mjasopust. While our neighbours in the Czech lands still know it today as masopust, here the period after Epiphany came to be called fašiangy. Did you know the word comes from the German Fasching.
The Pálffy family loved these feasts. Kaštieľ Pálffy was known primarily as an estate farm, so it was precisely the traditional pig slaughter feasts and celebrations that were renowned in this area.
So why not revive once again a tradition that has been associated with Svätý Jur since time immemorial. We have prepared a slightly more modern, but certainly interesting, version.
Starting today (1 February 2022), you can purchase traditional pork products in advance from the well-known local butcher Vanek from Modra. Product price list.

You may collect your products on Saturday, 19 February 2022, from 10:00 to 22:00, and on Sunday, 20 February 2022, from 10:00 to 22:00. Payment is possible either in cash or by card.
You are welcome to come and see in person how our homemade sausages, liver sausages, head cheese and cracklings are made on 19 February 2022 from 9:00 at the Pálffy courtyard at Kaštieľ Pálffy in Svätý Jur. You will collect your ordered products in person.
If you did not manage to place an order, no matter—our renowned pork delicacies will also be available for purchase directly on site. Throughout the entire Carnival weekend, you will also be able to enjoy excellent homemade doughnuts and savoury pastries in the square of Kaštieľ Pálffy, mulled wine from our winery ViaJur, and other hot beverages…
What would Carnival be if we did not have some fun as well. That is why, for Saturday early evening on 19 February 2022, we have prepared an excellent comedic theatre performance Tatranský poetický biftek with the unmistakable Lukáš Latinák. The performance is part of Theatre Spring at the Pálffys.

Lukáš Latinák will guide you—both seriously and with humour—through the topic of required reading, fairy tales, and Slovak poetry. The theatre will also feature practical excerpts from works by Slovak literary classics. This evening will certainly entertain you, but also educate and uplift you.

And of course, besides good cheer, Carnival would not be complete without excellent food—so our team of chefs from Palatín Inn at Kaštieľ Pálffy has decided to prepare a special pork menu, which you will be able to enjoy until Ash Wednesday. So do not hesitate—come not only to have a wonderful time, but also to dine superbly, and be part of the new tradition of Carnival in Svätý Jur.
